    Sad note in Gate City

Cory McMelroy, a 1995 graduate of Gate City High School, passed away Monday morning at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. He wore #70 on the football team. He attend UVA of Wise for two years and lettered in football. He leaves behind two sons. I am not sure of the exact cause but I heard something about heart complications. Let's remember this family in our prayers.
Lives of great men all remind us as their pages o'er we turn, that we're apt to leave behind us letters that we ought to burn.-----Anonymous

Sad to see so many young passing-makes us stop and think. Our next breath isn't promised to us. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and community.

I agree it is extremely sad. I had gotten to know him at church a few months ago. He had come with a buddy who he worked with, that goes to our church, and he had brought his 2 sons. He was on our prayer list after finding out he had a heart condition. Please keep him, his family, and especially his two young sons in your prayers folks. He seemed like an awfully nice fella what little I was around him.

I played with Corey, he was a great dude. Funny as can be, went in for a surgery, and had an unfortunate turn of events. He will be missed.
